Second Chance Jane Green Books

I love British/Irish chick lit of the Helen Fielding or Anna Maxted variety and if there was any way I could make my living talking about it, I would. This was an attempt to branch out and see who else is producing good work in the same vein. Green is definitely not in Fielding's or even Maxted's league. Her writing lacks alacrity and wit. The whole plot was entirely too maudlin an exercise, and her characters were much too predictable. I am interested in the romance genre because an author is expected to innovate within certain conventions and do something new within a tried-and-true framework, but there is no attempt to do so here. Green doesn't push herself either in humor or in style. It was only readable because I was on a plane and had no other choice. Second Chance barely held my attention.

Second Chance Jane Green Books Reviews

Fabulous read !!
From the beginning it's obvious that "Second Chances" is a far cry from the chick lit we all know and love. That being said, I still enjoyed this book. True, it wasn't what I was expecting. It is full of serious topics such as death, alcoholism and infertility. But it's still a well written book. Jane Green is a talented author and this crossing on genres worked well for her. I'm praying that the next book is bubbly and chick lit-y though. I'd recommend this.
This book read fairly quickly for me....the last 1/3 of it was the best part. I was disappointed in her previous book, Swapping Lives, after LOVING her older works, especially Babyville. I was surprised that it was so similar to the Big Chill in the beginning, felt like a cop-oit for a plot. I enjoyed the book and I was happy to see Green write a book better than Swapping Lives, but I am sad that she has not gotten back up to the caliber of To Have and To Hold and Babyville.
I liked it very much. It lacked a little bit of depth, especially when it came to Marcus. We never understood who he
really was. I would rather have liked to pick his brain. Other than that, I liked it. I think it was a true evaluation of alot of relationships,
especially today.
Good story, good characters and a plot I could relate to. Only problem was the ending felt rushed - like hurry up and tie it all together to meet deadline. Too many books are ending that way recently.
I was disappointed in this book. Firstly, there were so many characters introduced and I found that I only really cared about Holly. So much time was spent on the other characters and they really weren't all that interesting. Secondly, the HEA (happily ever after) at the end for Holly was really lacking. It seemed like the author just got tired of writing the book at the end and wanted to wrap it up with a relationship that was explained in just a couple paragraphs. The whole reunion scene at the end was not exciting to me either. Thirdly, what happened to Will? Who knows? I was totally falling for Will, too. I suppose the book was interesting enough for me to read the entire thing, but it was rather depressing. It really could have been better if the ending wasn't so dreadful.
The story was fine. More or less predictable. It needed better editing. Some if it was little dumb things, but showed a lack if attention. (For example getting the time change from the States to England wrong.) The story drug a bit as well. All the character change was really just summed up in the last couple if pages rather than seeing real character development.
