I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I was so glad to find something clean I could see myself reading to my children. I think it takes more intelligence to write without crude remarks or profanity. Thank you for going against the norm! Something I look for in books is good character development and an enticing story line. I can say Granted had both. Sometimes characters are too shallow in YA. I like how Brielle struggled when she finally got her first wish. Things were as great as she'd always imagined, but she didn't get lost in her own thoughts as she overcame challenges. I thought it was refreshing to get a modern approach to the genie way of life. After so many vampire movies and books this was delightful. The budding relationship between Rock and Brielle was refreshing where in other books it was that "forbidden love" with a human from the beginning. I am looking forward to reading more by Michelle Merrill.

Granted eBook Michelle Merrill Reviews

At turns suspenseful and humorous, Granted is a fresh take on the "grass is always greener" syndrome. Young Brielle can't wait to become a genie and escape the dry Saharan desert. If only her assigned lamp isn't stuck...in a storage unit. When Brielle finally gets her wish and lands her first assignment, she quickly discovers that she may have escaped the desert, but she's still feeling the heat. Genie lamps are mysteriously being destroyed - a death sentence for the genies assigned to them. Can Brielle discover who's behind the evil plot before her own lamp is shattered?

Merrill infuses the story with all the unexpected wit and charm you could hope for a mentor obsessed with cow print everything; a heroine enticed by exotic cars; a love interest with that good ole' slow burn quality; a plot with all the intrigue to hook you from the first page. A fun, clean read for fans of wishes, mystery, and romance.

***I received a copy of Granted from Future House Publishing in exchange for an honest review.***
This was definitely a clean read, and a fun, light story. I wanted a little more depth in the home atmosphere of the genies, and didn't fully connect with the main character, but I did very much like the side characters. There was a riddle, tension, a touch of suspense, and the sweet romance that no YA book is complete without. This is a recommended read for YA readers.
Okay, this was fun. I just spent far too much time ignoring my children to read Granted by Michelle Merrill. But, what’s a girl to do when Future House Publishing gives her an advanced copy in exchange for an unbiased review, and the book is actually entertaining? You see my problem. I maintain that I made the right decision.

Granted is unique, it’s clean, it’s just-one-more-chapter-before-I-sleep engaging. If only I had my own genie to grant my wish for book two to be published already!

Though it is definitely geared toward the teenage girl crowd, (given all the cute boys with dimples and detailed shopping scenes) as an adult, I would read it again and again.
I recently finished reading the eBook, Granted by Michelle Merrill. This is a book of love, friendship, and situations that make you realize what you are actually capable of handling.

I loved how the author wrote each character. The story follows sixteen-year-old genie Brielle, who finally gets her first assignment in Tri-Cities, Washington. At first Brielle has a bit of an attitude, but she does wait 4 years to get her first assignment. She finds out that genies are dying and is desperate for her assignment to make her wish so she can get her magic and find out who is killing the genies.

I love how Michelle wrote these characters, and the story line as it really draws you into the story.

Once I began reading the book the first day I didn't want to put it down, and it was a really good read.

Full Disclosure I received this product for free or at a discounted price for my honest opinion. I am not under any obligation to provide a positive or 5 star review. This is my honest opinion.
A subject that I wouldn't normally choose to read - genies. But, I got this book for free on , so I thought I would give it a try. And surprise, surprise - I really enjoyed it.

I love it when an author creates a new world or alternative world. In this case, the book takes place in the United States, but there is alternative universe where Genies are trained an prepared for their "job" when they are twelve. It's fun to learn all the background that goes with being a genie.

This could be really hokey, if that's all this book were about. But, it's not just a fantasy novel about genies. But it also has the underlying issues of coming of age, so you can really relate the teenagers in this. Add the mystery of who is killing off other genies, and you have a real twist.

I read this book in less than a day and went to download the sequel, but, there wasn't one! It left on a cliffhanger, and gah. Let's just say, I will be keeping an eye out for the next installment.
Brielle is a genie, but until the lamp she has been assigned gets rubbed, she can't be summoned out of the town all genies live in. When it finally does happen, things aren't as glorious as she thought. First, she has to get her assigned person to make a wish so that she can get her magic, which is easier said than done. Strange things are happening and her life gets a bit more complicated when Rock, her former best friend and also a genie, shows up at the same high school she is going to. People are breaking genies' lamps, killing them, and she's convinced that it's not an accident.

I really enjoyed this book, it was paced really well and kept you wanting more. The intrigue and curve balls that Brielle constantly dealt with were good and it was one of the first books that I've read where they have all of these things without a lot of violence. Of course, that could be partly due to the fact that when a genie's lamp breaks, they burst into ash instead of bleeding or exploding. I recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series.
