Beneath the Haunting Sea Joanna Ruth Meyer Books
The author says this work is influenced by Tolkien and Jane Austen, but I found it more of a Gothic romance/fantasy adventure along the lines of Andre Norton's later Witch World novels. The protagonist is a teenage girl, Talia, who fortunately is tougher than one raised in a life of luxury should be. It is riches-to-rags, but Talia's quest is not to regain her lost status. She seems only to miss her one friend, and her horse, from her former life, and sets about solving the mysteries of the old mansion where she finds herself imprisoned. There are bloody-minded goddesses, curses, a haunted library, and of course, boy troubles. The mythology is handled beautifully. During certain scenes I could hear Dead Can Dance's "The Host of the Seraphim". You'll see what I mean.

Beneath the Haunting Sea Joanna Ruth Meyer Books Reviews
I fell in love with this book after having read only a few sentences. The writing is beautiful, lyrical. It draws you in completely. I loved the main character, the mythology and the love story that develops further into the novel.
This beautifully imagined story is one of a kind and I can’t recommend it enough. The setting and characters in the novel are wonderfully written and the unique mythology created by the author give it a real depth. I absolutely loved it cover to cover!
If you love YA fantasy, particularly with beautiful, evocative writing and fascinating myths woven throughout, then this is the book for you. It has everything I love lyrical writing, a well-developed world, fiery romance, and a strong, intelligent heroine. Read it--you won't regret it!
Beneath The Haunting Sea is a gorgeous story with an evocative, atmospheric setting. Written in stunning, lyrical prose, Joanna Meyer weaves a tale about fate and the choice to embrace it, or fight for control. Romantic and sweeping and epic, Beneath The Haunting Sea will be a must-read for fantasy lovers everywhere.
All perfectly valid comparisons to the best fantasy novels aside, this is a terrific original story (a breath of salt air). It was hard to stop reading at the end of any chapter, but even when I had to put this book down it still gave me plenty to think about. I loved living in Talia's world, even when it was a cold, wet, windswept tower on a cliff.
I bought this for my 15 year old and I think I liked it more than her! It’s is very well written and beautifully imaginative. A lot of young adult books are written poorly but this novel is a clear exception. Highly recommend!
The depth of this story is incredible. I was prepared for a YA romance after the first few chapters but it turned into so much more. There are incredible myths that I could read as a book of their own. There is writing to drool over. And the main character is strong and multi-faceted.
